Grrrr!!

The kids have been crazy all night.

Charlize's eyelid is infected, again. She has an antibiotic ointment for it and we're doing warm compresses several times a day, I hope it's enough.

I've been having a hard time keeping it together for the last week, week and a half. I'm not really that sick anymore (just a little pain and pressure in my ears and glands, nothing like it was though), but I'm still feeling really drained. I just haven't had it in me to do everything I need to do. The house has been suffering, it hasn't been even mostly picked up in a couple of weeks now. The ferrets have been suffering, they haven't been out of their cage to play hardly at all lately. The kids have been suffering, we haven't done much preschool, haven't played many games, haven't read many books lately. It sucks, but I'm tiiiired. Ugh.

I'm hoping I can pull it together and get things done this week.

Anyway, that's all I've got for tonight. I need to go threaten some children (who are still awake at almost 10 pm... like I said, CRAZY) so I can get some sleep.

PS... isn't our fridge the picture of health?!?! An entire shelf full of yogurts. A drawer full of veggies and a drawer full of fruits. A shelf full of eggs and salads. A few things of leftovers. Lots of condiments. A drawer full of low fat string cheese. Yay us for making healthy changes!!!

this house is falling down

this house is falling down around us :o(
~*BonnieLea*~

To elaborate...

Our roof is leaking. Again. We had half of it replaced last spring, because that's all we could afford to do. The half that was leaking last year was replaced. Now the other half is leaking. And the half that was replaced, is leaking again, Mom thinks it's coming from the peak/ridge/whatchamacallit. Thing is... even if we get the whole thing replaced, there's no way we're going to have enough to replace everything that should be replaced. Since all that insulation has been wet, it should all be replaced. So much of the wood has been wet, it should all be replaced. And there's just no way we can do it.

It's depressing and overwhelming.

Ugh.

Not Much & Craziness

Haven't been blogging a whole lot because there's not a whole lot going on!!

I'm still sick. I don't know how that's even possible, but I am. My ears, glands, tonsils, eustachian tubes... I don't even know what exactly it is that hurts... but something in that area is still reasonably painful. I'm still coughing. My voice is still very hoarse.

Liliya has a double ear infection, and her left eardrum tore a little bit and drained. She was just switched to a new antibiotic because the first wasn't agreeing with her stomach very well.

We haven't been doing preschool as much as I wanted to. It just seems that it takes everything I have to keep the kids clean and fed, and clean up after them.

I can't wait to be feeling better.

I can't wait for spring.

I really need to find a method of discipline that can work for all 5 kids at once. I don't know what to do with them. When I have all 5, they walk all over me because they know I can't discipline them all at once. They take advantage of that. They feed off of each other's craziness. It's been crazy. To the point that I really have wanted to just literally rip my hair out. Or duct tape them all to the wall. Just far enough apart so they can't touch each other! It's just been ridiculously crazy. And it's driving me crazy, and I'm sick of yelling, especially since I don't have much of a voice.

We're getting the bunk beds for the girls room today :o)  I am verrrry excited about that!

I've got a list of child proofing and other thingswe need to do that will make our lives easier... I'm hoping that at tax time (SOON!) we can get a lot of it done. We need to childproof some more cabinets. We need to put up some shelves. We need to get curtains. We need a real gate at the bottom of the stairs so the kids can't go upstairs when they're not supposed to. Among other things.

I really need to get around to planning the kids birthday party, too. Liliya's birthday was a couple weeks ago, Dante's is in a couple weeks, and Holden's is a month after that. I'm having one party for all 3 of them. They're not old enough to have their own friends to invite yet, and not old enough to know the difference, so, yes, they're all having one joint party. I need to get with the program and get it planned.

Anyway, enough for now. The girls are already downstairs, causing who knows what kind of trouble.

Is it summer yet?

I miss taking beautiful pictures outside. I miss it I miss it I miss it!

I just can't wait for the weather to warm up.

I can't wait to be able to leave the back door open and let the kids play in the backyard all day.

I can't wait for all the things I want to do this summer.

I can't wait to go on vacation at the beach.

I can't wait to go camping in the backyard.

I can't wait to catch fireflies with the kids.

I can't wait to break out the bubble wands.

I can't wait for sidewalk chalk.

I can't wait for picnics in the park.

I can't wait to take the kids to Knobels and Dutch Wonderland and Sesame Place.

I can't wait for day trips to Ithaca for consignment shopping and the ScienCenter and Buttermilk Falls.

I can't wait for Wednesday sub days at Reliable Market and picnics at Schnurbusch Park with Pauline and Jada.

I can't wait for my dad to build the barn/playhouse/swingset he's supposed to be building for the kids.

I can't wait for spring/summer/fall. Just get me out of winter!!!

the beachhhhhh

Dad called tonight and asked if Mom and I wanted to go in on a beach house!!! They're looking at some places that are big enough for all of us, 5 bedrooms, right on the beach, ocean front.

Mom and I have been planning to get a beachhouse this summer. They're sooo expensive, we were going to put aside tax return money to pay for it. But if we can go in with Dad and find a big enough place, we all win. We get to vacation with Grampa and Mima, Uncle Bud and Aunt Janet, AND save a *bunch* of money!! It's a win-win. I'm sooooo excited!!

A week on the beach with my kiddos, how much better could it get?!

A week to sit in the sand while the kids build castles and play in the water.

I can feel the warmth of the sun now....

A week on the beach with my 5 kiddos = heaven.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I can't wait!!!

Random updates

I'm still sick. Not as sick as I was a couple days ago, but still definitely sick. My left lung is still junky, and my chest muscles are starting to hurt from all the coughing. It sucks. But I am doing better than I was so I have to keep reminding myself that I'm starting to come out of this illness and it should be over soon.

The kids are doing a lot better. Still coughing some and snotty, but not acting sick.

I miss my Bubba and Dante :o(  I haven't seen them in over a week now. I was going to try to take them tonight and keep them all day tomorrow but I just can't handle 5 kids, still feeling this sick. I misssss my boysss.

Charlize is still doing pretty good with the potty training. I do have to make her sit on the potty every so often, to keep her from having accidents. Some days she remembers on her own more often. But it's progress, and the less diapers I have to change, the better!

We haven't done a whole lot of 'preschool' this week, because we've all been so sick. I'm still working with Charlize on several letters, I'll quiz her about them a few times throughout the day. She knows the sounds of A, B, and D, still working on C, and she recognizes all of those letters as well. The kdis have been doing a decent amount of arts and crafts, mostly on their own. Their new favorite is brown paper bag puppets. With googley eyes and pipe cleaer whiskers, of course.

Tomorrow is the 2 week mark of my new lifestyle. I'm down 7 pounds as of yesterday, even after some less than ideal eating for a few days because of the sickies (read... Chinese takeout for dinner and lunch the next day, hotdogs for lunch one day cuz I was too blahhh to do anything but pop something in the microwave!). A friend introduced me to a great free weight loss site called sparkpeople.com and it looks realllly cool. I joined, and it's inspiring to read other people's blogs and see their progress.

I can't wait until my lungs are back to normal function so I can start adding some exercise to my routines.

The healthier eating is really paying off already. I'm eating LOTS of fruits and veggies, defintiely over my 5 a day goal. I still haven't done wonderfully with cutting back on portions at dinner, but hey, one step at a time, right? I'm trying so hard to take small steps that I can stick with, without feeling deprived. Because when I feel deprived... that's when I eventually fall of the bandwagon. So I'm eating yogurt and fruit for breakfast, sometimes with 1/4 cup of granola. Salad for lunch with chopped chicken or ham, sunflower seeds, and ranch dressing. If I'm still hungry about half an hour after my salad, I have a bowl of soup or a sandwich, but I only need that little extra maybe half of the time. I eat fruits and veggies for snacks, usually dipped in a couple Tbsp of peanut butter (protein fills me up!) or a little ranch dressing. For dinner we've been doing our normal thing but not cooking a starchy, processed side dish about hald of the time. Yes, about half of the time we will have mashed potatoes or rice or something like that. But we're doing a lot better than we were and not only do I feel good about this, I also feel like I could keep this up forever. My next goal is to cut way back on diet pepsi lime :o(   I looooove my diet pepsi lime. It's going to be hard to give it up. But I know it'll be so much better for me to drink water.

I'm sooooo over winter, and I'm more than ready for spring. I can't wait for the warm, fresh air. I can't wait to spend half the day on the deck while the kids play in the yard. I can't wait for picnics outside and trips to the park. I can't wait for my dad to build the kids their barn/playhouse/swingset. THAT is gonna be sooooo cool!!

Anyway, enough for now. The kids ran downstairs a while ago and even though my mom is down there... I've gotta get moving, even though I'd love nothing more than to rest and heal in bed for the day.

I'm sick

I'm sick.

My ears are so clogged it sounds like I'm underwater.

My chest hurts. I can't stop coughing.

My nose is really stuffy and runny.

My throat doesn't really hurt but my voice is very hoarse.

I've been running a fever of around 101-102.

Rayce went to school today. No fever this morning, no ear pain. Still a cough, but oh well.

The girls are coughing terribly, and Charlize mini-pukes when she goes into a coughing fit. But they act like they're feeling about 90% up to par, they want to run around and get into things and I just don't have the energy to keep up with them today. They're trashing the house, quickly, and I don't have it in me to clean up after them. They're fighting, and I don't have it in me to break it up.

Megan is keeping the boys this weekend so they don't catch this nastiness. If I'm feeling better by Sunday, I'm going to keep them Sunday night since Rayce doesn't have school Monday. I have 2 whole days to try to heal before then, I hope I can do it, because I haven't seen Holden and Dante in a week and I miss them so much :o(

I do feel better knowing I won't have to care for 5 kids tomorrow when I'm feeling so awful. But it sucks cuz we all miss the boys.

I just want to stay in bed for a day or two and sleep until it's over. Or better, at least.

I hate being sick. I hate being a sick single mom even more.

Sick of Winter!!

Rayce has been home sick from school alllll week. It's Thursday. If he misses their class party tomorrow, he's going to be devastated :o(

I'm trying hard to keep his brain from rotting while he's at home, "laing on the char woching TV". Today he did some addition, subtraction, and some 'kid-writing'. He did awesome :o)  He always does. My little brainiac :o)

our new positive reinforcement chart. the kids earn stickers for doing the things we're working on. some number of stickers will equal a special treat of some kind :o)

ETA: The stickers earn them dollars towards new books. For Rayce, 12 stickers equals one dollar. For Charlize, 20 stickers (since she gets a sticker for using the potty, she has the opportunity to earn a lot more!), and for Liliya, 8 stickers. I tried to make it a number they would earn with a little bit of work in about 3 days.

Tuesday, January 12, 2010

mom came to help and is keeping liliya in the waiting room. im going to rip my hair out if we dont get out of here soon

ETA: We spent 2 1/2 hours at the walkin. For the first hour and a half plus, I was alone with 3 kids. It was terrible. I get so overwhelmed, being out in public by myself with several kids for long periods of time. Long enough for them to get antsy and anxious. Rayce has an ear infection and a strep rash. Amoxicillan 2 tsp twice a day for 10 days.

The Sickies

Rayce and Charlize started to get sick Sunday afternoon.

Rayce hasn't been to school yet this week. Doesn't look like he'll be going tomorrow either.

They both have terrible coughs, fevers, runny noses dripping like faucets.

Now Rayce keeps holding the side of his face with tears in his eyes. Ear infection or possibly just swollen glands. But they don't feel that swollen.

I sense a trip to the walk-in in the very near future.

I'm glad this illness skipped Liliya for her birthday anyway. She's getting snotty, but no fever or cough, so far.

My poor kiddos :o(

I feel so bad when they're sick. As their Mama, I'm supposed to be able to fix what's wrong. But I can't.

So I just love on them as much as I can, snuggle, hug, stroke, and cater to them. Chicken noodle soup for lunch, lots of watered down juice, Vicks chest and foot rubs, and regular doses of children's Motrin.

Liliya's 2 year pictures :o)

Happy Birthday my sweet LilaBee!!!

Happy Birthday Liliya :'o)

Liliya is 2 years old today. She insists that she is, in fact, five.

Two years ago, the anesthesiologist had a heck of a time getting the spinal in. After multiple failed attempts at both numbing me up and putting the big needle in (because it was hurting me so much), he tried one space higher and it worked.

They brought Anthony in after they had already started the c-section. Within minutes, Dr Amin held this little bundle of joy up for me to see. The whole experience was very surreal, more than my first two babies. It felt like a dream, like I wasn't really there.

Besides the spinal issues, my c-section with Liliya went much more smoothly than my other two. I didn't get sick, didn't get the shakes terribly, and I just generally felt really good, once the anesthesia wore off.

It took them a couple hours to bring her in to me, after doing all their paperwork and getting both of us cleaned up.

She was perfect, just like I expected her to be. She was so tiny. Even though she was the biggest of my 3, she still seemed soooo tiny. She had her Daddy's chin, but other than that, I've always thought she looked the most like me.

From the beginning I felt like I had a strange connection with Liliya. I've never told anyone this because you all might think I'm crazy, but when she was a newborn, and she would cry, I would visualize (while still partially asleep) rubbing her back and patting her butt, and many times, she would calm down. It was strange. I felt like I knew her. Like I knew what she needed, before she needed it. Maybe it was the fact that I had already had lots of experience with Rayce, Holden, and Charlize. Maybe I did have more of a connection with her from the beginning. Who knows. But I loved that feeling.

When Anthony died, Liliya had new meaning for me. It felt like she was his last gift to me, in a way. Sometimes I felt like Liliya was Anthony.

She is such her own little person. She had an attitude much earlier than the rest. She is uniquely Liliya. Everyone loves her. She is such a character.

My sweet Bee.

Happy Birthday, Liliya :'o)

Dragonflies...

Tomorrow Liliya will be 2 years old :'o)

This time of year is a little rough, though. When I think of Liliya's birthday, I remember that Liliya was just 8 weeks old when Anthony died. Which is a hard thing to associate with my peanut's birthday.

So I'm thinking a lot about Anthony tonight. Sometimes I can think about him and smile, and sometimes I just want to cry. I just miss him. So much.

Thinking about Anthony makes me think about dragonflies. So I spent some time tonight seeking out dragonfly things, and look at all the amazing things I found just on the Target website...

books

Today I am feeling a lot better than I was last night. I try not to feel sorry for myself very often, but it does happen sometimes. Thank goodness it's fairly short-lived!

Anyway, this post is about my book wish list. I just love books, especially preschool activity books!!! And I plan to build up my collection over the next few months, a little at a time.

I also really want to find some more early reader books. We have a set of BOB books and I bought a handful of early reader books at the consignment shop, but I would really like to build their collection. I'll have a lot of early readers on my hands all at once in about a year! I'm waiting to hear back from Rayce's teacher for the Scholastic online ordering info, they have a lot more books available online.

I need to scope out a few first grade workbooks for Rayce, as well. The boy is a child prodigy :o) He's doing amazingly well in school and I want to keep him challenged and stimulated!
